The Northern Territory Government's formal response to the 'Inquiry into the Protection of Sexual Abuse of Aboriginal Children' (aka 'Little Children are Sacred' Report) is largely outlined in 'Closing the Gap of Indigenous Disadvantage A Generational Response', an initiative announced in July 2007.

This initiative is aimed at overcoming the disadvantages experienced by Indigenous Territorians and improving their quality of life over the next 5, 10 and 20 years.

The author of the report made 97 recommendations and there are government decisions relating to each of these. The Children's Commissioner is charged with monitoring those government decisions that have a direct bearing on child protection issues and has established a monitoring framework with the relevant government agencies responsible for implementing the decisions.
